Charles has been both a rifle and handgun shooter since the 1980s and has competed at county, national and international level in a variety of disciplines.  Since the late 1990s, his focus has been on gallery rifle and handgun shooting both in the UK and overseas.

Within the NRA Charles has served as the Gallery Rifle & Pistol Discipline representative, a Trustee and the Vice-Chairman of the Trustees.

He has also served as the Chairman of the International Gallery Rifle Federation (IGRF) and is currently one of the UK representatives on the IGRF Council.

Charles is a qualified Range Safety Officer and is the Lead Instructor for the NRA’s Handgun Skills Course. 

He also leads the Stats team at the three main NRA GR&P meetings (Spring Action Weekend, Phoenix and the National Championships) as well as at other Open GR&P meetings around the UK.  He developed the stats software which is used at many such meetings.

Charles is also the Deputy Chairman of the SLG Bisley Club (a joint British / German club).
