David is an experienced member of the GB Gallery Rifle Squad, having joined in 2016 and has shot for them in Ireland, Germany and the UK.

Although shooting from an early age, with an air rifle in his local Devon countryside, David came late to formal competition shooting with firearms. Trying to motivate his son into shooting, they joined a local club which was a former pistol club then struggling after the ban. With his normal exuberance he embraced the sport and with the help of other club members started attending Bisley events in the early 2000s where he found he had an aptitude for both competing and ROing.

David was proud to be invited into the GB squad in 2016 and has successfully represented the country in Ireland, Germany and the UK, earning 5 colours and 7 caps (5 in CF and 2 in SB). In 2018 he was equally proud to be selected as England Gallery Rifle Captain, a position he held for over five years (mainly due to the Covid outbreak) and would have retired Invictus if it wasn’t for the Scots in his final captains match!

Although he is happy to shoot either small bore or centre fire his preference is for centre fire where he is one of the few competitors still using .357 with which he briefly held the 1020 National record in 2015 and still holds the Advancing Target National and Phoenix records from that date. He enjoys almost all shooting disciplines from Black Powder revolver to F-Class rifle (though he may not be a master of any) and is always keen to help out on any range as CRO or SO. He also organises and runs a popular small bore falling plate competition on Dartmoor which helps to introduce other shooting disciplines into the fun gallery rifle style of shooting.
