Category : GB Handgun Squad (2023-25)
Club : Portishead SC
Andy Wiggins was part of the GB HG Squad from 2023 – 2025. Whilst not being selected to shoot in any of the teams on those occasions, his team spirit, experience and support for those shooting was exemplary.
His shooting career is bound together with that of Ken Williams. They have been Brother in-laws since 1973 and are affectionately known as Pinky & Perky. They have enjoyed a distinguished and eventful history in competitive shooting.
They began their handgun shooting journey in 1984 after joining the Portishead Shooting Club. The following year, they attended the National Pistol Association's annual meeting at Bisley, commonly referred to as Anno Domini. In 1988, they became official members of the NPA and continued their involvement until 1996. That year marked a new chapter as they joined the NRA and achieved qualification as Range Conducting Officers, which enabled them to run ranges independently.
Throughout these years, Andy and Ken were actively involved in range officering, primarily focusing on Police competitions such as PP1 and PP2. A highlight of their range officering career was serving as range officers for the European Bianchi Cup held at Bisley in 1994. During the early years, they also travelled to Germany on several occasions to compete in the 1500 handgun competitions.
Despite the cessation of civilian handgun shooting in 1997, they continued their passion for shooting and range officering at Bisley. Their focus shifted to Gallery rifles, long barrel pistols, and long barrel revolvers. They have attended every Phoenix meeting since its inception, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to the sport.
Andy and Ken became members of the GB Handgun Squad. They have participated in WA1500 World Championships in Germany (2007, 2025) and Sweden (2015), as well as WA1500 European Championships in Romania and the Czech Republic. As can be seen from the photograph taken in Romania, they have also been successful medal winners in the individual and Club Team events.
As they approach the end of their competitive shooting careers, Andy and Ken remain dedicated to shooting throughout the UK and Europe. They are passionate about encouraging new and younger shooters to take up this exciting sport, ensuring its continued growth and success
