Gail is an active member of the Support Group, always looking out for fund raising opportunities and ways to support the team. She is a regular for England in the Home Countries competitions, so knows what it takes to shoot at a high level.
Having been a county level shotgun shooter in her teens, Gail had a taste for competitive shooting, so when a life change came about in her late thirties she decided to take shooting back up as a hobby. This time around though she took a different direction and took up Gallery Rifle Small Bore. Despite being adamant that it would remain purely a hobby, she found herself flying down the rabbit hole into the competitive Gallery Rifle competition circuit. Gail met Alan Podevin, now her husband, on the circuit and has become a solid competitor in the sport.
Gail joined the England Gallery Rifle Team in 2020, representing her country in the Phoenix International matches in 2021 and 2025 and the Derby Home Countries Matches in 2023 and 2025 qualifying for her half colours. She also competes in Gallery Rifle competitions in Germany and is a regular medal winner in her classes.
Since 2023, Gail has been an active member of the GB GR & HG Support Group, with a focus on fund raising. She works closely with Jim Smith and between them, they run the GB GR & HG Bring & Buy stall. This is held at the Phoenix and Nationals competitions and is also active throughout the year with smaller stalls at the Derby and Cornish Opens, as well as independent and e-bay sales. This helps raise vital funds to assist the team with travel to overseas events, training, clothing etc. More recently she is also helping out with team socials logistics and turns her hand to whatever she can do to help.
In addition to actively supporting the GB GR & HG teams, she is also a regular in the stats office at the Bisley Gallery Rifle & Pistol competitions throughout the year. Gail is the Membership Secretary and Police Liaison Officer for the South East Essex Pistol & Rifle Club and a life member of the Kentucky Firearms Club. She is also a member of SLG Bisley e.V with whom she regularly travels to Germany and is a member of the range team at the annual SLG Bisley Open.
